Effective 8 July 2013, the Department of Defense has instituted a mandatory furlough for up to 11 working days for all civilian employees. This furlough action includes all USMA Library personnel. The Library also has many vacancies which we are currently unable to fill in a timely manner. As a result of this environment, the following changes to services and policies are in effect:
- Reference and Research Support to the General Public – Until further notice, the Library is unable to provide reference and research assistance to the general public. This includes email and telephone assistance as well as on-site appointments to use all library and archival collections, except use of onsite government documents mandated by federal law.
- Reduced Operating Hours for Jefferson Hall – Until further notice, operating hours for Jefferson Hall and the Library will be reduced. Please see our Hours of Operation for specific information on these changes.
In addition to our staffing reductions, the USMA Library is undertaking this summer a significant operation to relocate all materials held in our Special Collections and Archives to our new facility in Bartlett Hall North. This operation will result in the following changes to services and policies:
- Reading Room Closure – The Special Collections and Archives Reading Room is closed to all researchers (USMA and non-USMA affiliated). Service in support of cadets, faculty, and staff will resume for the fall semester on 19 August 2013. Service in support of non-USMA researchers will resume when staffing allows.
